Porcelanas Bidasoa: Industry, Art and Memory

The exhibition is a journey through almost 80 years of the factory’s history, a place that forms part of the collective imagination of Basque industrial memory. The factory, located in Irún, was looted after its closure due to bankruptcy, and many of the pieces designed and manufactured there are part of the GORDAILUA collection (Center for Heritage Collections of movable goods of Gipuzkoa).

Roles

The unquestionable value of many of the pieces, for which collaborations were carried out with artists such as Mariscal, Salvador Dalí, Andrés Nagel, or Pablo Picasso, overshadowed all the work that many women carried out with art and skill. One of the best known was Conchita Laca.

The path proposed by the exhibition is historical and artistic, but also, and above all, from a gender perspective, highlighting what has been considered minor arts such as ceramics and all workshop processes, as well as the stories of those who worked there and can tell what it meant firsthand.
