With DON HERBERT's guidance

De la mano de / Don Herberten eskutik 1987-2014 is a tribute to the person, the artist, and above all, the master lithographer.

He started and was responsible for the lithography workshop at Arteleku, from its beginnings in 1987 until its definitive closure in 2014; a space through which hundreds of people passed, including well-known names from the art scene, each with their own concerns, needs, and creative options, to learn, experiment, and produce using this technique. All of them grew, personally and artistically, under Don’s guidance.

Over nearly 30 years, he proposed and carried out, from his personal and professional space, from his workshop, a lithographic and vital experience that many people remember as enriching. Today, Don Herbert continues to be a reference in the world of lithography.

This exhibition aims to recreate the atmosphere of that workshop: a space of knowledge and artisanal mastery. A tribute in which Don’s hands are the perfect metonymy of his knowledge, his craft, and his humanity.

A place of mixing knowledge and experimentation, where observing, doing, and practicing was the essence of knowledge transfer.

Beyond his work, it gathers a large part of Arteleku’s memory linked to the graphic, screenprinting, and lithography workshops carried out there through the works of many artists whom Herbert taught and accompanied.
